The Trapper is a traditional canoe design that harkens back to an era when folks needed a short canoe with good carrying capacity, lots of stability and something that would be easy to negotiate around obstacles.

The Trapper is an easy canoe to paddle, but the real advantage is for folks who like to do things like fishing that require bringing something heavy from outside the canoe to inside the canoe. It would be great to hook into a thirty-pound pike but when you finally get it to your canoe, you don’t want to flip over when you try to haul it into your boat. That’s where the Trapper really shines.

The Trapper is fairly wide for such a short canoe and that’s what gives it the stability. To avoid feeling like you are paddling a barge, the shallow arch bottom of the Trapper means you don’t have to sacrifice speed for stability.
